Decontamination experiment of gravel at Tomioka Town Hall ②

Gravel samples (8.438 μSv / h ) for an experiment have in the mixer which involves inside non-conventional machining, then put in there some adjuvant materials for a cleaning with the functional water which gives high effective of surface-active and stirred them about an hour. （ ※ Substantiality, radiation dose rate of gravel was 8.438 μSv / h and excluded the air dose rate 1.64 μSv / h inside of concrete container. Then the total of dose rate became to 6.798 μSv / h ).

 

The radiation dose rate was decreased to 1.23 （2.87～1.64） μSv / h after stirred and the result was succeeded approximately 82%. After stirred the functional water with adjuvant materials and gravel in mixer then it would be drain but, at this time, the functional water and contaminated water were isolated when put aggregation and precipitation agent in drainage. The radioactive material was solidified with precipitation agent and any radioactive material didn`t  observe from the functional water.

 

 

This time was combined demonstration experiment together with a government, science and laboratory of Engineering Nihon University, “Sosei world “company and Tomioka town.

A Mayor of Tomioka town was opened the decontamination experiment with his courageous spirit. Before he was a very interested in the water which can decontaminate the radioactive materials and he said that “I would like to watch it in person and I want to start it at the earliest possible date for toward the practical use if can have advantageous effect”.

At the request of the Mayor Tomioka town, government officers from the Ministry of Environment, reporters from NHK and Newspaper companies were presented at the experiment. They watched in detail all the process for news coverage.

I watched the experiment well in person and found that the cesium does not remain meaning is achieved to a wonderful result with great success. It will be a good if the government decontamination groups operate on it. Now we are facing with a big problem of temporary storage place for radioactive waste. This is the Volume Reduction System for radioactive wastes therefore the government and specialists evaluate it steady and would like to bind the posture put into the practical use.

 

Today, I am really appreciating to all participants and it was not futile that I asked in presence of the government officials for the decontamination experiment. It was a very meaningful opportunity. Decontamination was not denoted as a new development in labor-intensive till today. Through this experince, the government seriously has to take the result which we did and by having a sense of speed while improving. Furthermore, we will see the point where progress forward. He said “The demonstration experiment was brought a great significance therefore achieved a result.”

 

The director of　Iwaki Headquarter, FIMV and staffs from the company” F.K cleaning” participated in this experiment. The decontamination operation occurred 10 times by Fukushima International Media Village, till today.
